As the name implies, the Office of
Parish Charities and Christian Life (PC&CL) is here to serve local citizens
who are in need and to foster our Catholic Christian faith within the
community. We rely heavily upon the generosity of our volunteer workers not
only to enable our office to function well, but also to help run the different
programs that we provide.
For example, the Food Pantry, our
largest outreach program, is open every weekday and provides a bag of
non-perishable food and bread to needy families. We may serve as many as 800
families in one month! Aside from the Food pantry, when funds are available we
work on a case-by-case basis to assist people who have received eviction or
utility shutoff notices. In addition, we help families who require prescription
medications, and when possible, we help desperate families obtain temporary
shelter.
Some of our volunteers organize
Parish participation in preparing and serving a week of meals at both the Hilda
Barge Homeless Shelter and the Prince William County (PWC) Homeless Drop-in
Shelter. Other volunteers organize the Parish’s Christmas Giving Tree each
year. Another function of the PC&CL is to arrange for Holy Family’s
participation in the March for Life in January. As part of our commitment to
“choosing life”, we team with Birth Right of PWC to aid new mothers and babies
who have no one to turn to for help. We welcome donations of food certificates
for formula!
Our office also sponsors the Black
History Group, the Holy Family Crafters and the Senior Group. We have special
weekly activities for the seniors, in addition to festivities for them on St.
Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Office of Parish Charities and
Christian Life and the Food Pantry and are open Monday through Friday, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM, requiring current identification to
show residence in Eastern
Prince William
County. Financial
assistance is given by appointment only on a case-by-case basis when funds are
available.
If you want to help with any part of our ministry, please see the Parish bulletin or call the PC&CL Office.
